Nitrogen production from ambient air is based on the separative properties of the unique Carbon Molecular Sieves (MSC).A pair of adsorbers (A and B ) are filled with MSC and alternately fed with compressed air. While adsorber A us pr ducing nitrogen, the MSC in adsorber B is being regenerated (see Fig. 1) by depressurization to ambient pressure.
After approx. 60 seconds the pressure in the two adsorbers is equalized, which means that the compressed air is used to maximum efficiency. lt is then the turn of adsorber B to produce nitrgen, while the MSC in adsorber A is being regenerated.This method of separation is known as Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). |
